In 1902, Julián Slim Haddad, father of Carlos Slim Helu, arrived in
Mexico from Lebanon, all alone and 14 years old, does not speak Spanish. He

In 1996 Grupo Carso split into three companies - Carso Global Telecom, Grupo Carso and Invercorporación - and following years Slim bought Sears Roebuck of Mexico arm. In 1999, Slim expand his business interests beyond Latin America. He founded Telmex USA and also bought shares in Tracfone, a US mobile phone company. At the same time he founded the Carso infraestructura y Construcción, SA (CICSA) as part of Grupo Carso, this construction and engineering company.
